Common Food Allergy Responses

I have been reacting to my life my whole life. From cleaners to cosmetics to food to nature. It’s been a growing list of assaults on my immune system. Had I know that some of these responses were allergy response or possible ones, maybe my life would be different. My best example is meat. By thirty-five years old, I have subsceous cystic acne for decades, IBD diagnosis, and insanes amount of histamine drugs that were doing nothing. In my rabbit holes of studies, I found case studies concerning meat and it’s impact on the liver. This led to “could I be reacting to meat?” November 2019 confirmed that with Thanksgiving leftovers and an ER trip. A new allergist and deep discussions later. I hardly ever eat meat. My allergy meds are way down. No need for a rescue inhaler. My IBD symptoms are so. MUCH. better. My face is clear. It took a couple of anaphylaxis reactions.

Allergy symptoms can be difficult for medical professionals and the reactee alike. Allergy symptoms can mirror or mimic other illness or chronic diseases. Allergic reactions can be a tricky thing. It isn’t always the emergency reaction you hear about. It can be as simple as a rash or hives every time you eat something. Stomach aches or bloating could be a food reaction or food sensitivity (not an allergy). Testing for food allergies or food challenges could be helpful. Watch for environmental allergies as they could contribute to food reactions. The most important thing is to trust your instincts while truly listening to experts. It takes strength and building your cheer squad helps. Completely, worth it.
